GORT, Co. Galway
Mr. Danny Donovan

This is at the northern end of Gort, on the Limerick to Galway road. This is a highly unusal, if not to say unique, memorial by Irish standards.
"Mr. Danny Donovan, Coole Park, Gort, Co. Galway who died on the 14th September 1991 aged 52 years. RIP
Danny Donovan was a legend in his own lifetime in Gort and it grieved him sorely to move to Galway in February 1991 to live in Hillside.
He was a figurehead in his own family circle and other family members looked up to him for leadership and support. His association with Gort was life-long, with his family connections being in the Loughrea area. Danny's departure from the Gort area left a vacuum.
He traded in horses with local farmers and had expertise in judging and handling horses. He also traded in farm gates and farm furnishings and bought scrap metals from local farmers. His occupancy of this position became something of a landmark.
The death after a brief illness of Danny marks the passing of a man whom the people of the area were long familiar for his character and astuteness in trade."
