Later that evening, two Leitrim women were fatally injured when they were involved in a three car pile up on the main Mullingar Longford. The accident happened at around 9pm at Collionmore, Co Westmeath. The dead women was the driver, Marie Whelan, 35, from Gorvagh, Co Leitrim of one vehicle and her passenger, Mary Faughnan, 63, from Annaduff, Co Leitrim. Another male passenger in the car was transferred by ambulance to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where last night his condition was described as "stable."
