Tragic road death saddens community

RESIDENTS of the area were shocked and profoundly saddened during the week following the tragic death in a road accident of Nigel Scanlon of Asdee.

A resident of Tullahinell Nigel was a very well liked young man in the area and came from a highly esteemed local family.

A young man of quiet and unassuming manner Nigel had a great passion for cars and machinery in general.

Nigel was employed at Guerin s super-market in Listowel up until last Christmas and was very popular with the management, his fellow staff members and customers.

His tragic death at the age of 23 numbed the Shannonside area in general and touched the hearts of everyone living in the area.

Nigel s remains were removed from Lynch s Funeral Home in Ballylongford to Asdee Church.

Requiem Mass was celebrated on Friday afternoon by local curate Fr Michael Maher and burial took place afterwards at Lislaughtin Cemetery in Ballylong-ford.

At the request of his family the entire funeral was private.
