A 31-YEAR-OLD Wexford woman
was tragically killed in a horrific car crash yesterday, as she was making her
way to catch an early morning flight at Dublin Airport, to spend a romantic
long weekend with her boyfriend who lives in London. The accident happened at
5.50 a.m., two miles outside the village of Graiguenamanagh, Co Kilkenny, when
the car, driven by Angela Fenlon, Millbanks, New Ross, Co Wexford, went out of
control on a straight stretch of road. Miss Fenlon's car hit a ditch, causing
it to turn over, finally coming to a stop when it hit the gate post at the
entrance of the home of a retired Board of Works employee, Joe Coady. "I didn't
know what was going on when I heard this really loud bang. I thought at first
that it was a car with a trailer unloading something, but then when I went
outside to investigate, I found the poor woman thrown out of the car and lying
on my drive-way," said a shocked Mr Coady. "My wife Mary and daughter Catherine
called the local doctor and fire-brigade as I put blankets over her, but
unfortunately, we could not save her."
Miss Fenlon, who had recently
bought the popular pub, Nite Owls on Quay Street in New Ross, was making a
great success of her new business and had great plans to develop it further.
"Angela was the type of girl that was so full of life, she could just take off
anywhere when she got the humour. Her mother Ann and father Ned are extremely
upset. It was not like Angela to drive fast, so the only explanation that we
can come to is that she either fell asleep at the wheel or one of the tyres
blew out," explained her uncle, David Fenlon, Newpark,Graiguenamanagh. "She was
in great form on Wednesday as she had spent some time celebrating at the home
of her friend Jenny Murphy who lives in Rosbercon near New Ross, as Jenny had
just passed her driving test", her uncle added.
Miss Fenlon was brought
to St Luke's General Hospital, Kilkenny, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The investigation is being headed by sergeant Mick Lane of Kilkenny Garda
Station.
