Tragic deaths of teenagers
Villagers stunned as horrific crash claims young
lives
The community of Clonroche was
attempting to pick up the pieces of shattered village life this week following
an horrific fatal accident which claimed the lives of two young cousins. Teresa
Kehoe, (18) Canon Murphy Park, Clonroche died at the scene after the jeep she
and her two friends were driving to work in, collided head on with a lorry on
Thursday afternoon last, just yards from their homes. Her second cousin, Fiona
Ryan, The Spout Road, Clonroche, who was 18 the day after the accident, gave up
her fight for life on Monday afternoon and died at Wexford General Hospital.
Another local girl, Tracey Cogley, from the Village of Clonroche, a back seat
passenger in the vehicle, escaped with minor injuries. The three girls who
worked together at the Lake Region factory in New Ross, were on their way to
work at approximately 1.30 pm on Thursday afternoon when the collision occurred
just yards from Canon Murphy Park. The emergency services were alerted straight
away and a private ambulance travelling two cars behind them battled to save
the two girls until back up arrived. However 18 year old Teresa Kehoe died
shortly afterwards and her cousin Fiona Ryan was rushed to Wexford General
Hospital where she remained on life support until Monday afternoon when she
passed away. The driver of the lorry sustained minor injuries and both he and
his passenger were also brought to Wexford General hospital where they were
treated for shock. The entire village has been devastated by the double tragedy
and have rallied around the two heartbroken families in an effort to offer them
comfort and support. 'The whole village is absolutely stunned by this. We don't
know what to do or what to say. All we can really do is be there for them and
hope they get through it,' said one local. Hundreds of people turned out on
Sunday morning to say their last farewells to Teresa at St. Clements Church in
Clonroche. Later this week they will return once more to pay their final
respects to her cousin Fiona and try to come to terms with two young lives cut
brutally short.
