Athy woman dies in accident
THE people of Athy were left reeling in shock last week as news spread that Noelle (Nollaig) O’Connor became the latest victim to the spiralling road carnage sweeping the country.
Ms O’Connor (26), who is originally from The Moat, but had been living in Glenealy, Co Wicklow, died in a three-car collision on Tuesday afternoon, 21 March. The collision took place near the notorious stretch of road of the N11 at Clonpadden, north of Arklow, Co Wicklow.
Ms O’Connor had been working as a teacher at CBS Arklow.
The youngest of six children of Charlie and Mary O’Connor, Noelle’s remains were removed from her family home at 11.30am on Friday morning last for requiem mass in St Ita’s Church, Kilmeade.
Her burial took place immediately afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

CONDOLENCES
Friday, March 24th was Daffodil Day and also the day that Noelle O’Connor’s body was brought to St. Ita’s Church for her Funeral Mass. All around the packed Church the looks of disbelief on the faces of mourners were evident as they tried to comprehend and to come to terms with the awful accident that had taken Noelle’s life the previous Tuesday.
Noelle’s short but very full life life was depicted in the many photographs adorning the walls of the Church. Everywhere there were daffodils and, in a way Noelle herself was like one of those beautiful daffodils; she was radiant, with a golden smile that lit up any room and just being in her presence made everyone feel happier.
She rested at St. Ita’s Church, which was so familiar to her as, after all, this was where she had served as an altar server, where she sang with the Scoil Ide Naofa school choir, where she played her tin whistle and, later, enchanted the congregation with her beautiful violin playing. After her Funeral Mass Noelle was buried in the adjoining graveyard, right beside her church and her school and not too far away from her home near the Moat of Ardscull. The sincere sympathy of the entire community is extended to her parents, Charley and Mary, her sisters Siobhan, Fiona and Deirdre, brothers James and P.J., her nephews and niece, brothers in law, sisters in law, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and many friends, including her teaching colleagues and pupils. “Suaimhneas siorai dhuit Nollaig alainn”.
