Irish Emigrant 25 - 8 - 97 Issue 551

Jeremiah Burke (77) and Abina O'Donoghue (60), both of Carrignavar, Co. Cork, died when the car in which they were travelling went out of control at Burnfoot Bridge near Mallow. The car, driven by Mr Burke, landed on its roof in the bed of a shallow river, but another passenger, Lily Cahill, managed to scramble clear and raise the alarm. She is now in intensive care. The three were coming home from a 45-card drive in Mourneabbey Community Hall, late on Wednesday night.
