The two surviving occupants of the car, a seven-year-old girl and a 17-year-old man, were taken to Wexford General Hospital following the crash. The man has since been transferred to St James's Hospital in Dublin.

Both are said to be in a critical but stable condition.

The road has remained closed pending a technical examination.
