OLYMPIC boxing hero Francie Barrett was devastated by a new family tragedy last night. The champion from the world of travelling families was mourning the death in a car smash of the cousin he looked on as a kid brother. Edward Barrett, 18, died in a three-car crash outside Galway early yesterday when his vehicle exploded into a fireball. The accident happened on the Tuam Road at Castlebar around 1am yesterday. The driver of one of the other two cars is still in hospital.

Less than half a mile from the Font roundabout as you leave Galway going towards Sligo. This cross is across the road from Edward Barret's Plaque and is on the left hand side of the road. It incorporates a memoriam card inside the glass circle in the centre of the cross.

This is at the start of the Headford road. It is less than half a mile after the junction of the N17 and the N84, the last roundabout out of Galway City. This location is at the entrance to a housing estate just beside a church in the Terryland area of the city.
